Calangute police have detained three taxi drivers for allegedly assaulting a GoaMiles driver and a hotel guest outside a popular resort in North Goa.
The accused have been identified as Laxman Salgaonkar (33) and Mukesh Matkar (40), both residents of Calangute, along with Hemant Malik (33) from Pernem.
According to a complaint filed by Elvis Rodrigues, security manager of Fairfield by Marriott in Calangute, the incident occurred around 3 pm on Monday when the accused allegedly prevented a GoaMiles driver from entering the hotel premises to pick up a guest. The accused reportedly assaulted Anurag Nautiyal while also threatening the taxi driver and snatching his phone.
Following the complaint, Calangute police registered a case under Sections 126(2), 115(2), 351(2), 324(2), read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
The investigation is currently underway, led by PSI Harish Vaigankar under the supervision of Calangute PI Paresh Naik and SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe, with overall oversight by SP North, Akshat Kaushal (IPS).
