Thirty new homes built by 1,000 volunteers of the Shram-Dham project initiated by Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar will be handed over to beneficiaries across the State at a Melava on August 23.

“We have a band of 1,000 registered volunteers working tirelessly and selflessly to build the Shram-Dham houses. Over the last one-and-a-half years, we have already built 40 houses and handed them over to beneficiaries under our Shram-Dham concept,” said Tawadkar, while speaking to media persons on Saturday.

“On August 23, 30 more houses will be handed over to beneficiaries at a Shram-Dham Melava. With this, we will be completing 70 houses in two years under the Shram-Dham initiative, since this unprecedented social concept was launched under Balram Charitable Trust two years ago to provide proper houses to the needy.”

When asked if the Shram-Dham houses had also been completed at Wayanad-Kerala following the devastating landslides last year, Tawadkar replied: “The Wayanad Shram-Dham houses are not included in these 30 newly built houses to be handed over on August 23.”

“A few technical glitches had cropped up in constructing the houses at Wayanad and these issues will be cleared very soon.”

It may be recalled that Tawadkar had announced that houses would be built under the Shram-Dham concept for the landslide and flood-affected victims of Wayanad. Later, with the active cooperation of Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, Tawadkar had visited the affected sites in Wayanad and also conducted a survey to build new houses for victims under his Shram-Dham initiative.
