DIFFERENCES ATPANAJI: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) in its bid to make Panaji open defecation-free city has given the green signal for construction of 310 private toilets in the city area under the centrally funded scheme at an estimated cost of Rs1.5 crore.

“The CCP in its meeting on Friday approved construction of single seat toilets. The CCP has already submitted list of 310 applicants to the government,” informed the CCP Commissioner Shashank Tripathy. Sulabh International is the execution agency finalised by the government for all municipalities in the state.
There was difference of opinion at the meeting with over setting up of CCP sub-office at Ribander with some corporators demanding to examine the cost and questioning the need for such an office. Ribander corporator too was not keen on the proposal.
At the CCP meeting it was also decided not to allow conducting of any prayers except the final ritual prayers at the Kabrastan and limit the burial place to Muslims from Panaji, St-Cruz and Taleigao Panchayat areas only due to space constraints.
It was also decided to deliberate on the two fresh draft of an agreement vetted by a legal team before going ahead with the process to obtain signatures of shop/premises holders in the new Panaji market.
The issue to regulate tankers operating in the city was discussed and it was decided to allow them to operate during night hours.
Some corporators wanted some solution on school buses parked in Mala area. They demanded that the buses be parked in Parking Plaza.
The mayor informed the corporators that the CCP would provide land to the police for keeping the towed old vehicles which are occupying the parking space in the city. There are 300-odd such vehicles in the city. The corporators have already given the list of such vehicles to the CCP.
The CCP also unanimously passed a resolution to send a proposal to the government that the mayor should be included in the Imaging smart city of Panaji.
