33 to contest in Mormugao

As many as 33 candidates will contest assembly elections from the four constituencies of Mormugao, Dabolim, Vasco and Cortalim in Mormugao taluka.

The last day for withdrawal of nominations on Monday saw various dummy candidates withdrawing their nominations. One candidate, former Sancoale sarpanch Sharan Meti, withdrew his candidature from Cortalim constituency on grounds that he had begun his electoral plans very late.

While the BJP, Congress, TMC, AAP and RGP have fielded candidates in all four constituencies, NCP has fielded candidates in two constituencies, Mormugao and Dabolim.

Vasco and Cortalim constituencies have the highest number of candidates with 9 each, followed by Mormugao (8) and Vasco (7).

Candidates in Mormugao constituency are Milind Naik (BJP), Sankalp Amonkar (Congress), Parshuram Sonurlekar (AAP), Jayesh Shetgaonkar (TMC), Paresh Toraskar (RGP), Xecue Acbar (NCP), Nilesh Navelkar and Enayatullah Khan (Independents).

PANAJIAs many as 11,64,522 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the assembly elections on February 14.The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kunal on Monday told reporters that the total voters registered in the State comprise about 5,66,531 male voters and 5,97,982 female voters.
