Replying to the discussion on demands for grants to the District Courts, Prosecution and connected demands, as well as the Opposition's charge that the code was yet to be translated, the law Minister said that it was in fact the Bombay High Court at Goa that has directed the government to get the Bill translated at the earliest.
He informed that the Bombay High Court at Goa in a judgement passed recently in Suo Motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition, asked the "concerned Department in the State government to take effective steps, as early as possible, and publish the official translation of Code in the official gazette within reasonable
time."
We have formed a three member committee consisting of Advocates Fernando Elgar Noronha, Aleixo Fernandes, Rui Aleixo Ferreira. It should take one year for the three-member committee to complete the task," the law minister told the House.
On other issues raised by the Opposition, Souza said that the government has reduced both the stamp duty as well as the registration fee for the benefit of Goans.
