Porvorim police have arrested four persons in connection with the murder and robbery of a woman from Betim.
The four accused have been identified as Mehboob Sheikh (32) of Sangolda, Rajesh Gaud (36) of Betim, Jakir Hussain (32) of Chimbel and Dinesh Tiwari (26) of UP. The accused had allegedly murdered Priyanka Ramesh Naik from Betim and had decamped with gold ornaments and cash, all worth Rs 45,000, a few days ago.
Porvorim Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar told The Goan that the accused had confessed to the crime.
According to PI Kumar, one accused had entered the house of the deceased around 3.30 am by removing the roof tiles and opened the main door for his accomplices. The four accused are then alleged to have killed the woman by smothering her with a pillow, before decamping with gold ornaments and cash.
Police have attached two scooters and a knife, while also recovering two gold bangles and an earring from the accused.
The four accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class and were remanded to 14 days in police custody, said PI Kumar.
