Vijai cautions BJP on hospital opening
Says govt making haste with eye on 2017 elections

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Thursday made a plea to the government not to commission the South Goa District Hospital in haste on December 1, with an eye on the 2017 Assembly election, but ensure quality work on the hospital project.
He told the media that the government would end up making waste if it rushes with the hospital commissioning in haste, assuring that he is willing to cooperate with the government in respect of the hospital by not raking up the hospital issue in the coming election.
“If the government is trying to rush with the project in haste in a bid to preempt the opposition from raising the long delayed hospital project in the coming election, I am ready to cooperate with the government. I can say today that let the government maintain quality work on the hospital and I will not even make the delayed hospital project an election issue,” he said.
Sardesai said he and the opposition has a huge number of issues which are enough to expose and pin down the government in the coming election. “My only contention is that "please don’t rush with the hospital project in haste, but maintain quality control in the construction work and the procurement of medical equipment,” he said.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar had on Wednesday announced commissioning of the long-delayed hospital project on December 1, after securing an oral undertaking from the contractor to complete the project by November end. He along with Fisheries Minister, Avertano Furtado and BJP MLAs Nilesh Cabral, Subhash Faldesai and Rajan Naik along with GSIDC and health officials had inspected the district hospital project on Wednesday to take stock of the progress of work at the site.
