On the backdrop of four more cases of Omicron variant being detected in Goa, the Health Minister has hinted that the community spread of this variant is possibly underway in the state.
“Few samples that were sent to NIV Pune (National Institute of Virology, Pune) for genome sequencing have confirmed four more cases of Omicron in the state of Goa,” he stated.
The Health Minister added that one of these patients is from within the state of Goa, with no travel history, indicating indigenous spread which needs to be further examined. “I will be discussing with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on further course of action,” he said.
Monday witnessed a massive jump in new Covid infection in Goa with 631 people testing positive for Covid-19. The daily positivity rate stood at a major high of 26.43 per cent.
Goa has an active Covid caseload of 2,240. However, no Covid deaths have been reported and only five hospitalizations have been recorded in the last 24 hours.
