A total of 1,895 bikers were booked for not wearing a helmet between Thursday and Saturday.
The total number of challans issued on Goan roads peaked towards the weekend. While a total of 1,358 challans were issued on Thursday, the figure rose to 1,368 traffic offences on Friday and stood at 1,447 on Saturday.
The police have tightened the noose on offenders on the backdrop of the spate of fatal accidents in the last week. Around 1,400 challans have been issued each day on an average since Thursday. However, despite the steep rise in number of challans issued, police lamented that the situation has yet to improve.
In 2016, around 267 persons had lost their lives in fatal road accidents and of these, 148 were bikers. The data for this year continues to remain dismal.
Since January, 107 persons have lost their lives in accidents and over half of these have been two-wheeler riders.
