Vanxim Divar Veterans Cup 2015 organised by Goenche Football Mogi concluded with Sun Moon & Stars beating Viva North Veterans in the finals via tie-breaker at SAG Campal grounds.
The game witnessed sheer class of football as both teams battled to take the lead. Both teams created chances but missed the target eventually ending in a goalless draw. Eventually, Sun Moon and Stars triumphed 4-1 in the penalty shootout.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rufino Monteiro, Chairman, GFDC applauded the spirit and commitment of veterans for displaying high level of performance even after passing their playing days and hoped the young grassroot trainees would take inspiration from them. He further thanked Nelson Silveira who has been a strong supporter by promoting Goan football in Dubai and Goa.
Guest of Honour Nelson Silveira congratulated both teams on a splendid performance. The chief guest for the finals Sidharth Kuncalienker, MLA of Panjim expressed pleasure to see one team from the North Goa and another from South Goa reach the finals and displaying a good game of football with fun and flair and uniting north and south Goa. He further congratulated Sun Moon and Stars on winning the Vanxim Divar Veterans Cup 2015.
Among the dignitaries present were Aleixo Da Costa, Member Secretary, GFDC, Gabriel Fernandes, Mumbai City FC player, Council members Agnelo Fonseca and Shantaram Naik and Anand Vagurmekar.
