47-year-old killed in Mapusa mishap

A 47-year-old man from Kerala but residing in Bambolim died in a road mishap after his two-wheeler rammed into the rear of an interstate bus near Bodguinim-Mapusa on Saturday night.

According to reports, the mishap took place at about 8 pm, as the rider Binu R Pillai, a distributor for the newspaper ‘Goa Malayali’, was proceeding from Mapusa towards Guirim on his two-wheeler and was following an interstate bus.

The bus is reported to have applied brakes and the scooter rammed into the rear of the bus. He sustained serious injuries in the mishap and was rushed to the Mapusa District Hospital in a 108 ambulance. He was, however, declared dead on arrival.

The mishap let to a traffic jam for some time along the Mapusa-Panaji road.

On getting information about the incident, Mapusa Police Inspector Sitakant Nayak and his team rushed to the spot and cleared the vehicles from the road and restored traffic with the help of the Traffic Police. Police detained the bus driver Umesh Gawde of Sawantwadi in the connection and PSI Babalo Parab and Constable Tukaram Shirodkar conducted panchanama.
