4-yr-old boy drowns in Vasco temple tank

VASCO

In a tragic incident on Saturday afternoon, a 4-year-old boy drowned after he accidentally fell in an underground water storage tank located within the Kanteshwar temple at Gandhinagar, Vasco.

According to reports, Ronit Patil, a student of a playschool and staying within 100 metres from the temple, was playing along with other children near the temple.

Sources claim that the underground water storage tank, having a height of around 5 mtrs, was covered with wooden planks. Patil removed the plank and was looking in the tank when he accidentally fell inside.

The other kids informed locals who were around after which one Ravi Gounder rushed to the tank.

“The tank was open when we rushed there. We saw inside but we could not see him so I got a torch and then we found him. I immediately removed him out. There was still some life as we desperately tried to resuscitate him. We immediately rushed him to Chicalim Cottage Hospital but sadly he passed away. Some kids claim that he was pushed in the tank but we are not sure,” said Gounder.

PSI Nehanda Tavares of Vasco PS is conducting further investigation.
