Verna police on Sunday have arrested five persons in connection with an assault on the staff at a bar in Zuarinagar.
According to Mormugao DySP Sunita Sawant, the accused have been arrested following a complaint of a businessman, Vinod Kumar Gopinathan (47) of Zuarinagar-Sancoale.
“Verna police received a complaint from Gopinathan stating that on Sunday afternoon, the accused and other unknown persons, all from Birla-Sancoale entered
the bar on the pretext of having drinks and raked up some issues with the staff working there.”
“The accused then assaulted the hotel staff, Chitrabhadur Sunar alias Gopal, Arjun Sunar, Pradeep Sunar, Pankaj Sharma with slaps, fist blows, wooden danda, beer and soda bottles, causing injuries to the staff and further abused the staff with filthy words and threatened them with dire consequences,” said DySP Sawant.
The Mormugao DySP said the group further damaged hotel furniture and the interiors, causing loss to the complainant.
“As of now, we have arrested the accused Shankar, Prem Singh, Sainath Naik, Sunil Shetty and Suraj Naik, all from Birla, under Sections 143, 324, 427, 504, 506 (ii) r/w 149 IPC. We will be arresting the other accused as well.”
“The high-handedness in goondaism will not be tolerated and we will take strict action against all these goondas,” said DySP Sawant.
PSI Atikesh Khedekar of Verna police station is conducting further investigation in the case.
