CANACONA
In an unusual announcement, Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Ajit (Ajay) Lolienkar announced his resignation within a month, adding that Sunday’s gram sabha would be his last as sarpanch of the village.
Stating that his two-year tenure would ends on June 18, Lolienkar surprised everyone at the gram sabha by saying he would resign as per an agreement among all panchas with Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, when he was elected sarpanch two years ago.
“The next sarpanch will be decided in accordance with the decision of our MLA,” said Lolienkar.
The Gram Sabha was attended by seven of the nine panchas, with the gram sabha deliberating on a private application for a bore well licence and removal of mud/siltation at the newly constructed pillars of the bridge on the Galgibaga river.
Motesinha Dias submitted an application seeking licence to dig a bore well for her private use and stated that a 2008 gram sabha resolution not to permit bore wells in the village was applicable to mega projects and not for domestic purposes.
Lolienkar, however, dismissed with her claim and said nowhere in the 2008 gram sabha resolution was it stated that the decision to ban bore wells in the village was only for mega or similar projects and rejected her application.
A senior citizen demanded immediate removal of mud around the bridge pillars on land and from the river banks before the onset of monsoons and also demanded a pathway alongside the Galgibaga bridge.
The gram sabha deliberated in the matter and later agree to forward the request to PWD and seek assistance of the Canacona MLA.
While a discussion was underway on the garbage issue, a resolution is passed to ban sale or issue plastic bags in any of the shops in the
village, including those selling fish.
Those panchayat members present at the meeting included Dy Sarpanch Jessica Corte, Shailesh Pagi, Nishant Prabhudessai, Nayanana Bandekar, Rita Araujo and Bhushan Prabhugaonkar, who those panchas absent were Sachin Naik and Anup Kudtartar. Panchayat Secretay Sandeep Dessai earlier read out the minutes of the last gram sabha.
