PANAJI/MAPUSACovid-19 continued its stranglehold on the State with 5 moresuccumbing to the virus, 2 MLAs testing positive and 339 new casestaking the total number of Covid-related deaths to 116 and total activecases to 3,861.Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party supremo Ramakrishna “Sudin”Dhavalikar and his wife tested positive. In a tweet posted on Tuesday,Dhavalikar wrote, “I have tested positive for Covid-19 just now. Asadvised by the doctors, I am getting admitted. I request everyone whohad come in contact with me
in the last few days to isolate themselvesand get tested.”Sources have revealed that Dhavalikar and his wife are bothsymptomatic. In addition to the Marcaim MLA, Tivim MLA and Info TechCorporation of Goa chairman Nilkanth Halarnkar has also testedpositive for the infection. He is asymptomatic and has opted for homeisolation. He has reportedly contracted a mild form of the virus.Halarnkar said he started getting fever late last night and thereforedecided to go for the Covid test along with his wife.Both approached the Colvale Primary Health Centre to do the antigentest.“During the test, I reported positive but my wife came negative. Ihave preferred home isolation and hope to recover sooner than later,”Halarnkar said.So far, total confirmed cases in Goa stand at 12,333 of which 8,356have recovered. Deceased persons include a 75 year-old man from Margao admitted atESI Covid Hospital, Margao with comorbid conditions who lost hislife on Monday, a 57 year-old man from Aquem-Baixo admitted atGoa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim with comorbidconditions who passed away on Tuesday.Three deaths were reported at the ESI Covid Hospital on Tuesdaywhich include a 72 year-old man from Borim, a 57 year-old man fromPonda and a 66 year-old man from Baina, all admitted with co-morbidconditions. At present, 231 Covid positive persons are isolating at home. Urban Health Center, Margao continues to have the highest number ofactive cases with 519 cases at present. UHC, Vasco has 365 activecases. Primary Health Center Chimbel has 223 cases and PHC, Pondahas 208 cases reported within its jurisdiction.Meanwhile, Colvale Primary Health Centre reported 15 new positivecases, including four from the Central jail in Colvale.Besides, five persons from Tivim, four from Sirsaim and two fromColvale also tested positive for Covid.Health Officer at Colvale PHC, Dr Damodar Narvenkar informed thattests were done on 613 jail inmates and staff as part of contact tracing.Two jail staff and two jail inmates were tested positive in the tests.It may be recalled 33 positive cases were detected in the Central jailon Monday with most patients reportedly asymptomatic.
