A late-night gambling raid in North Goa led to the arrest of five persons who were allegedly operating an illegal online betting racket from a private villa in Assagao.
Acting on specific information, a police team conducted a raid between 1.30 am and 3.30 am at a villa in La Stella Villas, Assagao.
During the operation, five accused were caught red-handed while allegedly running and assisting in illegal gambling activities involving bets on numerical figures through online platforms using laptops.
The accused have been identified as Naveen Kumar Somanathi (30) from Hyderabad, Nitin K (23) from Palakkad, Akshay C (26) from Palakkad, Sangram Singh Chavan Patil (40) from Pune and Ramkumar N (25) from Mandya, Karnataka.
Police seized five mobile phones, four laptops and other related materials collectively valued at approximately Rs 5.5 lakh under a panchanama.
A case has been registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act. Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Saish Kinlekar of Anjuna Police Station.
