Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday urged organisers and speakers to avoid making statements that could hurt sentiments or disturb communal harmony.
Speaking to the media at Shirgao, Sawant said organisers and speakers at public events must show restraint and ensure their words do not offend any section of society.
He advised organisers to be careful while inviting speakers, especially those from outside Goa, and to ensure they do not make inappropriate or provocative remarks.
The Chief Minister also stressed that organisers must act responsibly and maintain proper conduct at events to preserve the State’s tradition of unity and brotherhood.
His statement comes in the wake of a controversy during a programme held in Vasco on the occasion of Parashuram Jayanti, where Gautam Khattar allegedly made objectionable and derogatory remarks about St Francis Xavier.
Stating that Goa is known for its tradition of religious harmony and unity among all communities, Sawant said maintaining social harmony in the State is everyone’s responsibility.
“Goa is a land of communal harmony where people of all religions live together peacefully. Any attempt by outsiders to create division through inflammatory remarks will be dealt with strictly by the government,” he said.
