PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral has said plans are afoot to construct five more sumps and overhead tanks at Pundalik nagar, JMJ hospital, 20-point programme colony and Green Hill Colony at Socorro and Salvador do Mundo.
He added that estimates have been made to replace the existing water pipeline in Porvorim constituency with a new water pipeline at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore.
“Once all these works are completed, there won’t be any water problem for residents of Porvorim constituency for next 30 years,” said Cabral.
He was speaking at Porvorim after inaugurating the overhead tank of 650 cubic metres and sump of 1000 cubic metres which has been constructed at a cost of Rs 5.78 crore in the presence of Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said residents in Porvorim constituency being at the tail end used to face problems of water shortage for many years.
“To resolve this problem, the 15 MLD water treatment plant has been constructed. Water to this plant is being supplied from Tillari. During November and December, the Tillari plant is shut down for maintenance and hence, Porvorim plant cannot be operated.”
“Hence to address this issue, alternate source of water from Sal and Amthane is being planned for which separate pipeline from Sal to Porvorim will be laid. When this work is completed the Porvorim water treatment plant will receive water for the whole year,” said Khaunte.
PWD Chief Engineer Santosh Mhapne said water to the tune of only 10 MLD is being treated presently at Porvorim water treatment plant due to lack of storage capacity.
“With the commissioning of this new overhead water tank and sump, the storage capacity is increased substantially and it will be possible to treat 15 MLD water at Porvorim water treatment plant. As a result, residents of Porvorim constituency will get sufficient water in future,” said Mhapne.
‘Porvorim-Guirim flyover to start soon’
PORVORIM: PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral stated that work on the flyover from Gauri Petrol Pump to Guirim would begin soon.
“This project was pending as some residents in Porvorim had approached the Supreme Court against this project. The Supreme Court has cleared this project. A presentation of this project will be made before the panchayat and residents of Porvorim and we will go ahead with the project after receiving suggestions from public.”
“The work on the flyover will be entrusted to the contractor free from any encumbrances to ensure work on the flyover is completed fast,” said Cabral.
