580 forest guards, others to undergo training in marine, coastal wildlife

Nearly 580 forest frontline staff, marine rescuers, Drishti Lifeguards and beach safety patrol teams will be trained in marine and coastal wildlife.

Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said that the State forest department in association with Drishti Lifeguards and NGO Terra Conscious and Chameleon is organizing a training and capacity building programme for forest frontline staff, marine rescuers, Drishti lifeguards and beach safety petrol team on topic ‘Marine and Coastal Wildlife Stranding-First Response and Handling Protocols of Turtles, Dolphins, porpoise, Birds, snakes, etc’.

He said that during the two week long training in North and South, total of 580 personnel will be trained by eminent experts.

Rane said that the training will further enhance professional skills of staff and volunteers to handle effectively and efficiently marine wildlife stranding cases along the 105kms long coastline of the State.

The Minister said that the department is committed for protection and conservation of the incredible marine biodiversity of Goa.
