A day after electing sarpanchas and deputies, all 59 newly elected panchas of seven panchayats of Canacona took oath as members of panchayats on Tuesday.
Canacona Block Development Officer (BDO) Anil Naik administered the Oath of Membership of the respective Panchayats to the 59 panchas in three different groups on linguistic basis.
While some opted for Konkani, a few opted for English and most others opted for Marathi to take Oath of Membership of Panchayat.
All seven panch members of Agonda Panahayat including Sarpanch Fatima Rodrigues and Dy Sarpanch Prettal Fernandes along with a few other panchas were part of the group who took the Oath of Member of Panchayat in English.
Canacona Block Development Officer (BDO) Anil Naik also briefed the sarpanch and dy sarpanchas on the functions of their respective posts in panchayat and later interacted and guided all seven panchayats in Canacona taluka.
While one panch member was each elected unopposed at Poinguinim, Gaondongrim and Shrishthal, elections were held for the other 56 wards.
It may be recalled that Canacona created a record of sorts as 6 sarpanchas and seven Dy sarpanchas in the seven panchayats of Canacona are elected unopposed.
