Most of the newly-elected panchayat members from Salcete taluka were administered oath of office by the Block Development Officers on Tuesday.
The oath of office was administered by Block DO Amitesh Shirwaikar to the newly-elected members.
While many a question was raised over the administration of the oath after the election of Sarpanchas and deputy Sarpanchas, Director of Panchayats Sidhi Halarnkar informed that the Goa Panchayat Raj Act provides for administering oath after the election of Sarpanch and deputy Sarpanch.
With the newly-elected Panchayat members administered the oath of office, officials said the members can now officially discharge their duties as members of the Panchayat bodies.
