This case may call for a study by medical professionals and experts handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
An infant, aged five months and half from a village in Salcete had to be rushed to a city-hospital after the baby girl suddenly developed cold and fever, only to be told that their child had tested positive for Coronavirus.
What’s interesting to note is that none of the inmates of the house, including the father, mother and others, who underwent a Covid test, has tested positive. As a matter of abundant caution, the driver working for the family was also told to undergo a Covid test, but the test also came negative.
The family later got the maid who was oiling the child to undergo the test, but that too came negative.
Inquiries by the family revealed that there were no Covid positive cases in their immediate neighbourhood, throwing up questions how the infant got infected with the virus.
After days of treatment in a private hospital, where she was administered antibiotics, the infant was discharged, but one question that still remains unanswered is how the infant got infected with the virus.
The private hospital is believed to have raised a bill of Rs 50,000 for the family, with the management saying the DDSY scheme is still not being implemented by the hospital.
“We are indeed perplexed how the child got Covid when none of the family members had tested positive for Coronavirus. When we took our child to the private hospital, the hospital management told us that the infant had tested positive for Covid”, informed the father.
