It seems that the coming Christmas is sure going to be a gala time for 5-star hotels in the state. A week before December 25th, a number of 5-star properties were sold out on online booking portals, if one tried to make a booking for December 24th or 25th.
This showed that they had already sold all their room inventories. This should be like music to the ears of hoteliers, who have otherwise struggled to fill all their rooms due to fewer tourists this season as compared to previous years.
Premium hotels like Grand Hyatt in Bambolim, Alila Diwa in Utorda and Novotel Goa Resort & Spa were all sold out on online portals if one tried to make a booking for December 24th check-in to visit Goa around Christmas time.
Other five-star hotels were selling their rooms at much higher tariffs than they sell otherwise, which again shows that they were getting good demand.
Consider this: Taj Exotica in Benaulim was asking for a tariff of a whopping Rs 78,720 per night for check-in on December 24th and check-out on December 26th. The Leela in Cavelossim was charging a tariff of Rs 50,561 for check-in on December 24th and check-out on December 26th.
South Goa is where a lot of rich domestic and international tourists head every year, which allows hotels there to charge high tariffs.
Hotels in North Goa were also asking for high tariffs but clearly not as high as hotels in South Goa.
Taj Holiday Village Resort & Spa in Sinquerim was asking for Rs 37,760 per night tariff for a check-in on December 24th and check-out on December 26th.
Novotel Goa Shrem Hotel was charging Rs 17,919 per night tariff for check-in and check-on the same days.
Air-fares to travel to Goa from cities like Delhi and Mumbai were also more expensive than otherwise.
For example: online portals showed a number of flying options from Delhi to Goa on December 24th for around Rs 8,000 per person, which is higher than usual.
Similarly, one can fly from Mumbai to Goa on December 24th for Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 per person.
