5th arrest made in Rs 1 cr fake digital arrest case

In its ongoing investigation into a fake digital arrest scam, in which a 68-year-old was duped of Rs 1 crore by fraudsters posing as a Delhi Crime Branch officer, the Cyber Crime police arrested another person, bringing the total number of arrests in the case to five. The accused has been identified as Rahul Mishra from Uttar Pradesh.

According to Cyber Crime SP Rahul Gupta, technical and financial analyses during the investigation along with interrogations of the arrested persons, led the police to a suspect involved in operating mule bank accounts for money transfers.

“The team tracked the suspect through technical and financial analysis, eventually locating and arresting him in Uttar Pradesh. During interrogation, police uncovered details of two additional bank accounts linked to at least seven other cyber frauds across different states, amounting to a total fraud of Rs 2.58 crore. Electronic devices, including mobile phones, a laptop, a tablet, and hard drives, were also seized,” the officer said.

Prior to Mishra’s arrest, Yaramala Venkateswarlu and Roshan Shaikh, both from Andhra Pradesh, and Visakh R and Muhammadshan, both from Kerala, were arrested.
