Gang nabbed for 2-wheeler thefts, temple burglary

Porvorim police have arrested a gang involved in two-wheeler thefts and a temple burglary and recovered four stolen motorcycles worth Rs 4 lakh.

According to North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal, Saurabh Dessai of PDA Colony, Porvorim, had lodged a complaint with Porvorim police stating that a Royal Enfield Himalaya motorcycle valued at Rs 1.5 lakh had been stolen on January 19 at about 1.10 am.

After registering the complaint, Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab formed a police team to investigate the case. With the help of CCTV footage and after collecting information, the police team located and arrested Lalit Nanu Vaigankar (19) of Sodiem-Siolim at Ankale in Khanapur-Karnataka.

Police recovered from him two motorcycles, the Himalayan (Royal Enfield) motorcycle stolen from Porvorim and a KTM Duke motorcycle stolen from Mapusa.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he along with other persons had stolen an Aprilia scooter from Assonora and this scooter was also recovered from him.

Another Yamaha motorcycle stolen from Sawantwadi-Maharashtra was also recovered during investigation, police said.

Porvorim police are in search of two more accused involved in this case.

Vaigankar is also reported to have disclosed that they were involved in a temple burglary at Moira on January 16 and that, a minor boy along with two accused are involved in this case.

The 17-year-old boy native of Maharashtra but residing at Mapusa has been traced in this case.

PSI Arun Shirodkar and PSI Sachin Shirodkar are conducting investigations under the supervision of PI Rahul Parab and Porvorim SDPO Vishwesh Karpe under the guidance of North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal.
