Some 570-odd candidates who first cleared physical tests in a 2016 recruitment process for 119 police constable posts are in the lurch as there is no further progress in the process or any sign of declaration of results of the written test they had answered in January this year.

The process which began way back in 2016 with a physical examination got stuck first with the 2017 elections, and later in the administration’s tardiness during the year-long illness of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

Even as the process was revived, and the 570-odd candidates who had cleared the physical tests conducted in 2016 were made to answer the written test in January this year, Parrikar’s death in March and the subsequent Lok Sabha elections and simultaneous four Assembly by-polls has impeded the recruitment.

Yet, six months from the date the written test was conducted, the delay in announcing the results has annoyed the aspiring candidates and fear it may altogether be shunned.

“The results are being delayed to manipulate and pave the way for politically favoured candidates”, claimed one aspirant who appeared for the written test in January.
