60 identified as ‘lead schools’ to kick-start coding, robotics

PANAJI

Sixty schools have been identified to shoulder the responsibility as 'lead schools' to usher in the advanced curriculum of coding and robotics training in high school education across the State under the CARES scheme set to kick off in mid-November.

The schools were picked by the Empowered Committee of the CARES scheme which met on Friday, chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

The meeting also decided that graduates or post-graduates in Engineering and allied Computer Science domains would be selected to deliver the advanced curriculum to 5,940 students in these 'lead schools'.

Meanwhile, the committee also took stock of the ongoing upgradation of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories in the lead schools and noted that already 600 ICT equipment was delivered as part of Phase I.

In Phase II, 3,700 pieces of ICT equipment will be supplied to the remaining 375 government and aided schools across the State, the committee decided.

Continuing training of TFG-fellows, mostly graduates and post-graduates from the engineering and computer science domains, in the State as well as institutions of national importance, was also approved by the committee.

State-level hackathons and similar other competitions were also suggested during the current academic year to increase interest levels and awareness among high school students.

Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar, Advocate General Devidas Pangam, Director of Technical Education Dr Vivek Kamat, other members of the committee and other Education sector officials participated in the meeting.
