The Mission Bypass members, who were arrested, claimed that they were not informed about the resumption of mining transportation by the government authorities.
Members of Mission Bypass Forum along with a few locals reportedly obstructed mining ore transportation at Tilamol junction on Monday morning, claiming that they have not been informed by the government authorities about resumption of mining ore transportation from the main road.
It may be recalled that few months ago, two women died in an accident involving mining truck at Tilamol junction. The Mission Bypass Forum had demanded with the authorities concerned to listen to the grievances of the people and to take care of safety of the people.
On Monday, the police and Quepem Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the Mission Bypass members, but soon the discussion turned into an argument.
Later, Mamlatdar Gaonkar ordered the police to arrest seven people on charges of blocking mining transportation.
Sources from Quepem Police informed that Prashant Gauns Dessai, Fredick Fernandes, Robert Estibeiro, Pradeep Kakodkar, Ali Sheikh, Maceline Pereira and Sanjit Dessai were arrested for allegedly obstructing mining ore transportation under
Section 151 as a preventive measure to avoid any
cognizance offence.
“Later, acting on the complaint filed by a mining company, the police registered the offence against some arrested people under Sections 143, 147, 341 r/w 149 of IPC for unlawful assembly and wrongful restraining,” informed PSI Dessai.
