UGDP leaders opposed Mickky’s homecoming: Radharao

The United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) has welcomed Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco’s plan to join the Goa Su-Raj Party, with party ideologue and senior vice-president, Radharao Gracias saying that the party leaders were opposed to Mickky’s homecoming.

In fact, Radharao said he had put his foot down when Mickky had announced his plan to return to the UGDP fold. “Mickky was not welcome into the UGDP from day one. I had put across my views to my party leadership since I was opposed to his homecoming and seek re-election from Nuvem when he has failed as a legislator,” he said.
Asked whether Mickky’s decision to join the GSRP is a setback for the UGDP on the eve of the Assembly election, Radharao shot back, “Where’s the question of a setback when Mickky was not wanted in the party.”
He demanded to know the development works taken up by Mickky in Majorda village of his constituency since the time of his first election in 2002. “Leave alone his performance in the Legislative Assembly, Mickky had failed on the development front too. How can we support a non performing Legislator,” Radharao argued, while justifying his decision to his long-time friend and supporter, NCP Nuvem candidate Vincent Rodrigues.
To another question, Radharao said he is of the firm opinion that if all the like-minded political parties do not come together to defeat the BJP-led government, the UGDP may not field any candidate in the coming election. “I believe that all forces should come together to defeat the BJP. And, I also believe that the UGDP should not field any candidate to avoid division of votes,” he said, adding that UGDP leaders may throw their lot behind candidates of their choice in their respective
constituencies.
