7 lakh 2-wheelers in State

The State has registered a total of 7,91,737 private two-wheelers and 2,34,646 private light motor vehicles.   
Latest figures released by the transport department have shown that the state registered 25,151 public two-wheelers and 60,677 commercial vehicles. 18,409 taxis and 4,296 auto rickshaws have also been registered in the state as of last year.   
Under the state’s public transport system, the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) has registered 11,488 buses and mini buses.   
The transport department aware of the high numbers of vehicles on the road has said it has implemented measures to avoid cars from parking on roadsides. “To avoid obstruction to smooth flow of traffic on major roads that carry fast traffic due to unauthorized parking, various stretches have been notified as no-parking zones. Traffic staff is deployed at most of the major junctions and on the stretch of roads that carry fast traffic,” it said in response to a question raised at the assembly 
session. 
During peak hours apart from deployment of traffic staff regular motorcycle patrolling is also maintained and special drives against unauthorized parked vehicles were also being organised from time to time.  
To ensure smooth flow of traffic on road, the department has also informed that staff have been deployed at most of the major junctions and intersections and on the stretch of roads that carry 
fast traffic.

PANAJI The Ministry of Environment and Forests has, in a notification, extended the time for coastal states, including Goa, to draw up a fresh Coastal Zone Management Plan under the CRZ notification.
