Strengthening the Goa Police force, 700 recruits of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) have completed 10 months of training at the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, Assam, and will now join duty in the State.

On the second day of his visit to Assam, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant attended the passing-out parade on Tuesday along with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Directors General of Police of both states. Sawant was given a guard of honour before the ceremony, which marked the graduation of recruits from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd IRB units of the Goa Police.

In total, 569 male and 131 female constables underwent 43 weeks of training, which began in October 2024. With this batch, Goa became the second State after Manipur to send its personnel for training at this academy.

CM Sawant urges new IRB recruits to serve State with dedication

PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday called it a proud moment for the State as 700 Indian Reserve Battalion recruits completed 10 months of training at the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Assam.

Addressing the graduates in Konkani during the passing-out parade, Sawant urged them to put their training into action while serving Goa. “It is a proud moment to see them graduate after 10 months of rigorous training. I want you to serve Goa with dedication and uphold the lessons learnt at the Assam police training academy. You now have a role in achieving the vision of Swachh, Sundar ani Surakshit Goem,” Sawant said.

The Chief Minister thanked the Assam government for hosting the Goa trainees. “I offer my special gratitude to Assam CM, who, in just one phone call, agreed to train our personnel. His gesture proves that we will always be united as one in India,” he said.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the high standards of the training. “The 10 months have equipped Goa’s recruits with physical, mental and tactical skills necessary for policing. You (recruits) have also experienced the culture and traditions of Assam, while we have learnt about Goa through you. Diversity makes our nation great and, whichever state we come from, we are all serving the same nation,” Sarma stated.
