The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) on Thursday passed a resolution to implement recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission to the MMC employees.
The decision, which was passed unanimously at a special MMC meeting, will now be forwarded to the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA).
Following this development, the strike planned by the MMC workers on Friday has been called off.
It may be recalled that on November 29, Goa Municipal Workers Association had warned the State government and municipal councils in the State to implement the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission to municipal workers, provide equality in the salary of workers and to induct temporary workers permanently into the service.
The workers had threatened to go on strike if these demands were not met within 15 days.
Stating that MMC had accepted the demands of the municipal workers, MMC Chairperson Sandeep Falari said the MMC was the first municipal council to implement the said recommendations and had bought equality in the payments of workers.
All councillors, with the exception of Alpa Bhaidkar and MMC Chief officer Clen Madera were present at the meeting.
