PANAJI

Around 20 per cent of Goa’s legislators, eight of the 40, have failed to file the statement of their assets and liabilities for the year 2016-17 before the State Lokayukta, even after the anti-corruption Ombudsman extended the October 2 deadline.

The list of eight MLAs who failed to file their financial details includes Subhash Shirodkar, who recently resigned as a MLA to switch from the Congress to the BJP.

The others are: Chandrakant Kavlekar, Aleixo Reginald Lourenco, Isidore Fernandes, Francisco Silveira and Wilfred D’Sa, Carlos Almeida and Churchill Alemao.

Besides the legislators, dozens of elected representatives of the local self-governing bodies -- zilla panchayats, panchayats, municpal councils and the Corporation of the City of Panaji -- have also failed to file their personal financial details.

A total of 932 elected representatives from 174 village panchayats have not submitted their statements to the Lokayukta. Among Zilla Panchayat members, six from North and 12 from South have failed to meet the deadline.

Also 9 of 30 councillors of the Corporation of the City of Panaji have defaulted as have 91 councillors from the balance 12 civic bodies.

The office of the Lokayukta meanwhile has submitted the list of names to the Governor and as per rules, the latter may forward the record to the State legislative assembly.   THE LIST OF 8
