The ruling BJP on Wednesday said the government will not hesitate to shut down industries if they do not provide 80 per cent jobs to the local unemployed.
The party further said the government has already set in motion the exercise to fill up 10,000 government jobs.
Addressing the media, BJP leader Urfan Mulla said the party does not require advice from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal how to provide jobs to the Goan youth. He said the BJP government has already started the process to recruit 10,000 unemployed youth in government service and has also made it mandatory for the industries to provide 80 per cent jobs to the local youth.
Urfan warned that the government would not tolerate any attempts made by the industries to deny jobs to the local youth, saying the government will crack the whip on such industries, even telling them to shut down.
He further said the government has started the process to provide Rs 5000 to the small businessmen, including motorcycle pilots and taxi drivers hit by the Covid pandemic. “The government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is working for the welfare of the common man. We need no guidance and advice from others. These leaders only make false promises with an eye on the election”, he said.
When his attention was drawn to reports that Goan youth working as contract workers at the Verna and Cuncolim Industrial estates are at the mercy of the contractors, affiliated to the ruling dispensation, Urfan said the government will not only initiate action, but will try to get these workers regularized at these industries.
Margao BJP chief Rupesh Mahatme, Fatorda mandal chief Manohar Borkar and Navelim chief Paresh Naik were also present at the briefing.
