A host of present and former sarpanchas, panchas and new comers are amongst the 832 candidates left in the fray for the 33 village panchayats in Salcete taluka after the date of withdrawal on Monday.
The 11-member panchayat of Davorlim-Dicarpale has the highest number of candidates, around 47 to be precise, followed by Benaulim (43), Nuvem (42). Five member Rachol village Panchayat has the least number of candidates, around 10 candidates to be precise.
Amongst the present Sarpanchas in the fray includes Benaulim Sarpanch Remedios Fernandes, Colva Sarpanch Menino Fernandes, Carmona Sarpanch Sandra Fernandes, Velim Sarpanch Melvyn Sanches, Paroda Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate, Sarzora Sarpanch Jacinto Fernandes, Rachol Sarpanch Joseph Vaz and others.
