The legal metrology joint team raided a reputed multinational LED TV brand company warehouse in Verna on Friday and seized around 84 LED Television sets and 2200 bracket stands as these products did not have manufacturing date or importer details on it.
Assistant Controller South Zone, Arun Panchwadkar, Legal Metrology inspectors Vikas Kanolkar, Nitin Parshuram, Vasco inspector raided the
premises.
The raid was conducted after an activist filed a complaint stating that multinational companies are selling old reconditioned spare parts to customers in guise of new products thus cheating them.
As per mandatory provisions of Packaged Commodities rules 2011 (Section 6) the company should mention the MRP, date of manufacturing or importing, name and address of manufacturer/importer etc on
the boxes.
Earlier in March, the Metrology department had seized 2 LCD panels by raiding the service centre of the same company in Panaji and the offense was compounded.
Similar raids were carried out in different warehouses at Amravati Maharashtra, Mumbai, and Pune.
The complainant had alleged that the non-registration of the products was being done with intention of evading excise duty which could run into crores of rupees.
The complainant has also filed a complaint before Chief Commissioner GST and Central Excise.
