An eight month-old infant from Sirvoi in Quepem became the youngest to fall prey to Covid-19 in Goa.
The girl child, who passed away on October 3, lost her life within 16 hours of being admitted to the hospital. She was suffering from Glycogen storage Disease type III, an inherited disorder caused by the buildup of a complex sugar called glycogen in the body's cells and causing organ and tissue impairment.
The child was among the eight persons who succumbed to the infection. With this, the Covid death toll in Goa has risen to 468.
The other deceased persons include a 49-year-old man from St Estevam, a 50-year-old man from Morjim, a 62 year-old man from Curti, a 46-year-old woman from Corjuem, a 58-year-old man from Mormugao, a 75-year-old woman from Nagoa and a 61-year-old man from Vasco. While five expired at Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim, three deaths were recorded at ESI Covid Hospital in Margao.
Meanwhile, 519 new cases of Covid-19 were detected in Goa in the last 24 hours. The total number of confirmed cases now stands at 36,238 of whom 31,050 have recovered and 4,720 are presently active cases.
