Will the Chief Officer of Margao Municipal Council Ajit Panchwadkar explain to Madgavkars why curtains have still not come down on the feast fair at the Old market area?

It’s now nine days since the feast fair began on the Margao Municipality parking land at the old market, but there is no sign that the fair will come to an end immediately, raising questions as to why the civic body has still not cracked a whip against the fair.

Questions are also being raised whether MMC will charge additional fees on hawkers and traders, who have been continuing beyond the 7-day period.

Meanwhile, the Shadow Council of Margao has pointed out that though it’s now nine days since the feast fair began on December 9, but the fair stalls continue to stand there.

“What is adding to the hardships of the general public and motorists is that, due to the fair stalls having been erected on either side of the main road, there is severe traffic congestion leading to traffic snarls. Vehicles are parked on the road on both the sides, creating total chaos with the functioning of the traffic signals,” SCM Convenor Savio Coutinho said.

He added: “Even more astonishing is the fact that compared to the previous years, the Council is learnt to have earned the least amount of revenue even though the number of stalls and the number of days have increased.”

Saying that the bigger task for the Council would be to clear the waste from both the fairs, he added “during every Feast, Shadow Council points out to these issues but instead of improving, it

gets worse”.

SCM demands that the general public be relieved from the hardships immediately by removing the stalls.
