There seemed no end to the deadlines set to complete civil work on the South Goa district hospital or its commissioning.
After setting a new deadline of December 31 on Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) to hand over the hospital building to the Director of Health services, the Public Undertaking Committee (PUC) of the Goa Legislative Assembly has set a fresh deadline of January 31, 2020 to complete all works on the hospital building and hand over the building to the Health Director.
That’s not all. Leader of Opposition, Digambar Kamat, who is heading the Public Undertaking Committee as its Chairman told the media that he does not want to set the deadline for the commissioning of the district hospital, only saying the new hospital will be commissioned in 2020, while hinting that the commissioning can take place on Gudi Padva in April.
Kamat was the lone member of the PUC to have an interaction with officials of the government agencies, including the Health Secretary and officials of the Personnel department, Health Director Dr Jose D’Sa, Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Ira Almeida, GSIDC General manager, Jude Carvalho and the contractors at the district hospital building on Tuesday evening.
After taking a review of the progress and the status of work on the district hospital building and taking note of the fact that the contractors had slowed down the work for want of dues by the government, the PUC Chairman told the media that a fresh deadline of January 31 has been set on the GSIDC to complete work on the hospital building and hand over the same to the Health director.
“There has been delay in the completion of the building work with the contractors demanding payment of their dues. After my intervention, the Chief Minister has now released part payment and I am confident that the balance would be complete within the new deadline,” he added.
Kamat said he has been trying to monitor the progress of work of the hospital with the help of the PUC with the sole intention to get the hospital commissioned. “Officials of the agencies have been helping the PUC to resolve the issues plaguing the new hospital. Last time I had said that the new hospital will be commissioned in 2020. I hope that the hospital will be commissioned at least on Gudi Padva day in April,” he
said.
While saying that the PUC has set a fresh deadline on the GSIDC to hand over the building to Health services by January 31, Kamat said the PUC will have a review meeting in the hospital premises on January 15 with the Health Secretary, adding that Health Minister Visjwajit Rane will be invited for that meeting if required.
