All 11 students from the Shree Shantadurga Higher Secondary School at Bicholim who were admitted in the Mapusa District Hospital (MDH) are stable and while nine of them were discharged and sent home, two have been kept under medical observation.
The students had been first admitted to the Bicholim Community Health Centre and were later referred to the MDH.
“Their condition is stable now, but some of them are still under stress. We have treated nine students and sent them home, while two are kept under observation,” said a medical official at the hospital.
These students were admitted to the MDH at around 3.30 pm and they were accompanied by their parents and teachers. The doctors and medical staff treated these students under the supervision of the in-charge of the hospital Dr Vandana Dhume.
Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Ferreira and GPCC President Amit Patkar visited the MDH to interact with the students and enquire about their health.
When contacted, Dr Shetye said he had also interacted with Dr Vandana Dhume, physician Dr Sachin Gawade and other medical officers.
“I also spoke to the school management and police. The police have registered an offence and instructed the management to form a disciplinary committee. A similar incident had taken place in the school a few days ago, but it was of a milder nature. CCTV cameras will be installed in the school and classrooms,” said Dr Shetye.
Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Ferreira said such an incident should not have taken place in the school.
“We hope that the school management will cooperate the police in the investigation. This is the second such incident, and the students must behave properly henceforth,” he said.
