A solemn and inspiring function was held on October 28, at Azad Bhavan, Porvorim, to commemorate the 99th Birth Anniversary of veteran Freedom Fighter Narayan Hari Naik.
The event served as a tribute to his immense contributions and sacrifices during the struggle for Goa’s liberation. The attendees included Shambu Bhau Bandekar, ex MLA and social worker, who spoke about Naik's contribution in Goa’s liberation and upliftment of the mundkars, farmers and downtrodden post liberation. Also present were Vasanti N Naik, Adv Jayprakash Naik and Medha Pai Raikar, who highlighted the close bond among those who fought for freedom.
A year-long plan of various commemorative events to be held on important dates throughout the centenary year was also announced with an aim to further educate the public about Narayan Hari Naik's life and ideals.
The function was hosted by late Naik’s daughter Adv Vijayalaxmi Haldankar and the vote of thanks was proposed by his daughter, Dr Smita Naik.
