MARGAO: After having had two consecutive conventions in 2010 and 2014, Alcoholics Anonymous Goa fellowship is bracing up to organise yet another convention to commemorate its 50th Anniversary on February 21, 22 and 23 at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
The inaugural function will be held on February 21, 2025 with an awareness program on the effects of alcoholism and its recovery through the 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous. This function will be open to the public. Over 600 delegates will attend this meeting, including Goa AA members and their families as well.
The main purpose of this convention is to encourage female alcoholics to come forward and seek help & make them aware that alcoholism is not a disgrace but it is a disease, to remove the stigma surrounding alcoholism, bonding together members of A.A. fellowship the world over and interacting with members of other region.
Alcoholics Anonymous took its birth in Akron, Ohio in the United States in 1935. The fellowship came to India in 1957 and thereafter to Goa in 1975. As of today there are approximately 60 AA groups in South Goa itself and around 12 to 14 groups in North Goa where meetings are being held and recovery from alcoholism takes place.
