MARGAO
With night temperatures dipping during the last couple of days, this native of Punjab, owner of Rekhas, the House of Cotton, has turned out to be a good Samaritan to hundreds of people living in the commercial capital without shelter.
Moved by the plight of the people, be they vagabonds, beggars or simply visitors to the city, who sleep in the open for want of a shelter, the Managing Director of Rekhas, Maghav Gupta, came up with the idea of distributing blankets to these people.
Accompanied by his staff and friends, Maghav went about putting a blanket on the people sleeping on the pavements near the Pimpalkatta and other places in the city since the last two days.
"We have so far distributed around 300-400 blankets to these people, who sleep in open places, including Pimpalkatta, railway station and old station road. This is just one way of serving the society and the downtrodden, who can neither afford shelter nor blanket," he added.
Maghav has plans to cover the entire city before moving towards other cities. "This exercise will continue till December month end since the cold weather conditions are at its peak," he said.
"This is just one way of reaching out to the underprivileged sections of the society. The activity is being carried out under the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)," Maghav added. Rekhas, who are the manufacturer of towels, bedsheets and duvets, has its corporate office on the third floor, Reliance Atria building, catering to large segment of the tourism and hospitality industry.
