A day after, villages struggle without power

OLD GOA

With cyclonic winds bringing down trees and damaging power lines, several areas were left without power for more that 24 hours.

Several parts of Chimbel, Merces, Santa Cruz, Goa Velha, Azossim-Mandur, Old Goa and other villages had to reel under darkness throughout Sunday and Monday as well as the 11 KV feeders were affected due to the damage to the power lines caused by falling trees.

Affected citizens were left clueless as the landline number of Bambolim sub station as well as the power department’s helpline number 1912 was not working.

“I have been trying to contact the Bambolim substation since Sunday evening but the call doesn’t go through. Even tried to dial 1912 but that also didn’t work,” informed a local from Goa Velha.

The Goan also had the same experience as attempts to call both the numbers proved futile.

A source inside the Bambolim substation informed that majority of the 11 KV feeders were found to be faulty due to the snapping of power lines and hence, power was disconnected to such feeders.

“Power was released only to those feeders where there was no fault,” the source informed.
