Says authorities afraid people will not attend BJP meet

I wonder how there can be law and order situation, when both the functions are slated at two different places, though in same locality, but nearly a kilometre apart.”

AAP denied go ahead for function; accuses CMC of politics

The Aam Admi Party (AAP) in Canacona has accused Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) of politics in denying them permission to organise a function to felicitate municipal workers on May Day.

“The municipal administration did it to appease their political masters, citing that Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar will attend a meeting in a nearby locality on the same day and time,” charged AAP spokesperson Sandesh Telekar.

According to Telekar, AAP in its application dated April 25, had sought permission to use municipal space at the old bus stand, Chaudi, for a public felicitation programme of municipal labourers on May Day.

CMC Chief Officer Pundalik Khorjuvenkar, in a letter dated April 28, denying the permission stated that the “Canacona Police station has not recommended to grant you permission, as a law and order situation is likely to occur since there is a pre-scheduled meeting in the nearby locality on the same day and time, where chief minister and defence minister will be present.”

“In view of this, your application for grant of permission to occupy old bus stand Chaudi for public meeting cannot be considered,” stated the letter.

Displaying another letter dated April 29, from Canacona Police, Telekar said the police had not denied loudspeaker permission at all, but was waiting for NOC of the venue and claimed that Canacona Police said they had no objection to recommend use of loudspeaker permission to the applicant.

In their letter, Canacona Police had stated that since “the applicant has not furnished copy of NOC of place of venue (old bus stand Chaudi) from the authority concerned (CMC), the application for loudspeaker permission has not been recommended.”

The police letter further stated that “It is further submitted that if the applicant furnishes NOC from authority concerned, Canacona Police would have no objection to recommend loudspeaker permission to the applicant.”

“This is how our administration is bowing to their political masters. I wonder how there can be law and order situation, when both the functions are slated at two different places, though in same locality, but nearly a kilometre apart.”

“We were not even aware of another function when we applied for permission, but our intention was to felicitate municipal workers and it is best suited on Labour Day. Since permission is denied, we will postpone it to some other day, but will not cancel it.”

“One wonders if the government is more concerned that people will flock to AAP's felicitation function, instead of the nearby BJP function?” Telekar asked.
