Aam Aadmi Party General Secretary Pradeep Padgaonkar on Wednesday disclosed that the party has spurned requests from several disgruntled BJP and Congress leaders who sought the support of AAP for their candidature in the Zilla Panchayat elections.
“Many disgruntled candidates from BJP and Congress sought our support for their candidature. We do not want to support such candidates and go against the principles of our party. We have given the opportunity to our workers wherever we have good support to contest the ZP polls,”
Padgaonkar said.
Four AAP candidates filed their nominations in Bardez “ Smitha Shet (Aldona), Godfrey D’Lima (Tivim), Manuel Cardozo (Calangute) and Mario Cordeiro (Socorro).
AAP’s Calangute candidate, Manuel Cardozo, said Calangute had turned into a den of prostitution which had to be stopped. “Drugs and prostitution have increased in Calangute. There are several other issues in the village-like irregular power and water problem. If given an opportunity I will take up these issues in the village,” Cardozo said.
He also stated that he was motivated to take a plunge into politics because of the AAP’s ideology and the charismatic national leader and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
Mario Cordeiro, AAP’s candidate from Socorro, said AAP will work to towards devolvement of powers to ZPs, which has been not done for long by the national parties.
“We will strive to complete works at village level so that people should not approach the MLAs and ministers for works,” Cordeiro said.
