Condemning the BJP government for not taking keen interest in utilising Goa's tourism potential, AAP's chief ministerial Elvis Gomes, who had served as tourism director, said AAP has enough ideas to bring back tourism on the right track.
Gomes was speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of AAP’s 'Jhadu Chalao Yatra' in Mormugao taluka which started from Mormugao constituency and culminated in Cortalim on Friday.
“Tourism is our backbone, but the BJP government handled tourism across Goa in a most unplanned manner, and this major revenue generating industry started crumbling. Tourism needs ideas, we have those ideas and we are going to put tourism back on track. We have already stated in our manifesto that we are going to double our revenue which will come from tourism,” he said.
Speaking on Mopa airport, Gomes said he has made it very clear that operations at Dabolim airport has to continue and AAP would do everything within their power to retain operations at Dabolim airport in future.
“AAP believes that Mopa is a big land scam as 54 lakh sq mts of land has been taken over from the poor people to make Mopa into a casino district, which the AAP government will oppose tooth and nail,” stated Gomes.
Speaking on coal dust pollution in the port town, Gomes said as far as pollution in port town was concerned, nobody will be allowed to tamper with the ambient air quality monitoring system and law would be made strict.
“The reason for increase in coal dust pollution in port town is because law is not enforced properly and this is because money bag politics is being practiced here. AAP will stop the money bag politics and stop coal pollution,” he added.
AAP candidate for Mormugao Karl Vaz said the 'Jhadu Chalao Yatra' is basically to bring about change in governance.
“Goa is flooded with corruption and the broom (AAP symbol) will definitely clean corruption in Goa. We will make sure that necessary technology will be used to ensure that pollution is completely abolished and in case coal is to be handled, then it will be allowed only under high-end technological way,” said Vaz.
