Several leaders of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who spoke alongside Arvind Kejriwal, urged the aam admi in Goa to fight for themselves and bring down big powers.
Pankaj Gupta, national secretary, AAP, said, “In the last five months, our volunteers spoke to 1 to 2 lakh families in Goa. We went to them and we told them why our party was created. We told them corruption was being spread and we had to create a political party to make laws, which deal with that sort of corruption.”
Gupta continued, “We explained to them how common people in India can enter electoral politics without money and without muscle power and beat big powerful names. We have confidence that people of Goa will show the same courage and defeat powers, which are causing them great trouble.”
Gupta said people are really tired of Congress and invariably everyone says that Congress will never come back to power because it spreads too much corruption. He continued, “People told us that they believed the promises made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and that’s why they gave them majority in last elections. But, today, people have lose trust in BJP.”
Gupta emphasised that it isn’t just about broken promises; but, it is a matter of bad condition in which industries like tourism, mining and agriculture are in Goa right now.
Speaking after Gupta, Bhagwant Mann, AAP member and MP from Sangrur in Punjab said, government shouldn’t underestimate common people and it is these people who make leaders. Mann took pot shots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said, “When Modi came to power, he said Congress has shrunk to 44 seats in Parliament and its MPs, since they are so few in number, can sit in a mini-bus and come to the Parliament. But, Modi didn’t know that BJP would be reduced to just 3 MLAs within ten months in Delhi elections and they can then come on a scooter.”
Mann urged common people to wake up. He said, “They have destroyed our lives. This is not just Kejriwal’s fight alone. This is the fight of common people and they will have to come forward. We have come to power not for money. We have come to power because we understand the pain of common people.”
Mann told the crowd that before coming into politics, Kejriwal was an Indian Revenue Services (IRS) officer and similarly many leaders of party like Ashutosh had successful careers but they gave it all up because they understood the pain of common people.
Mann even said that different political parties are ruling people in instalments of five years and there is no freedom. He continued, “They thought that people wouldn’t wake up. But, that did happen. AAP won 4 seats in Punjab assembly elections. Then, we won in Delhi. Now, it is Goa’s turn.”
