AAP promises to set up Delhi-model anganwadis in Goa; felicitates workers

MAPUSA

Lauding the work done by anganwadi workers in the State, AAP Goa convenor Rahul Mhambre said besides their primary task of providing pre-school education, anganwadi workers were forced to do all kinds of other chores and have been on the frontline during the Covid crisis.

Mhambre also said that AAP will incorporate Delhi’s anganwadi reforms in Goa and will include the promise in the party’s manifesto.

“The already overburdened, underpaid, understaffed and under-resourced anganwadi workers faced several challenges in the wake of the pandemic. They have put in a lot of effort during the Covid times which includes conducting surveys, making door-to-door visits and spreading awareness,” Mhambre said.

The State AAP convenor was addressing a gathering at a function to felicitate the anganwadi workers in Mapusa. AAP’s Joint Secretary Sunil Signapurkar and Dr Sandhya Kadam were also present.

Continuing, Mhambre said besides providing preschool education, anganwadi workers are responsible to keep track of the immunisation of children and also reaching out to pregnant women and lactating mothers so that they can take benefit of the government schemes.

“Needless to say, they have contributed not only towards curbing the spread of the Covid infection but also in helping people to access treatment in both urban and rural areas,” he said.

Mhambre said the State government has neglected early childhood care when 80 per cent of a child’s brain develops and promised to incorporate Delhi’s anganwadi reforms in the State.

He said AAP decided to host the felicitation ceremony of the anganwadi workers due to their enormous contribution towards the social cause.
