Margao fire brigade rushed to Sonsodo again on Saturday as the waste treatment plant was engulfed by fire in the evening.
Fire brigade personnel informed they have been receiving calls almost every alternate day to extinguish the fire inside the plant.
Fire officer Gill De Souza informed that a fire tender was sent to Sonsodo at around 4 pm to douse under fire.
He, however, asserted that the Margao municipality should immediately fix issues relating to the water pump and hose pipes on a priority basis so that the fire is capped by the municipal workers.
Saying that the fire brigade has recommended a host of measures, including repair of the water pump and the hose pipes, Gill said the only temporary solution to keep the fire at bay is to keep the waste dump inside the plant wet by spraying water.
“We cannot send the fire tender every day to Sonsodo. There may be emergency calls from other areas as well”, he said, adding that the municipality can keep the fire at bay by spraying water through the water pump.
When contacted, MMC officials said that the recommendations made by the fire brigade will be considered only on Monday when the proposals will be discussed with Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes and municipal engineer Manor Arsekar.
